19 Apr. : International Symposium: Public Engagement for the Global Goals with a Special Focus on Sustainable Oceans

DATE / TIME : 2017•04•19 14:00 - 17:30

LOCATION : United Nations University 3F / U Thant International Conference Hall (5-53-70 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo)

UNU-IAS, Global Environment Outreach Centre (GEOC) and Embassy of Sweden will jointly hold an International Symposium: Public Engagement for the Global Goals with a Special Focus on Sustainable Oceans with HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden (Sustainable Development Goals Advocate).

This event is supported by the United Nations Information Centre, Tokyo. Since the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted in September 2015 by UN member states, international society has been exploring the ways to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under this ambitious agenda.

In this symposium, we will examine how we should understand the SDGs; how to spread and inspire young people to achieve the goals; and how government, science, and business can cooperate. The latter half of the symposium will focus on the current conditions of oceans, what kinds of initiatives have been taken and will be possible, and what Japan can contribute to achieving the related SDG.

Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Japanese and English.

Participation is free but a limited number of seats are available.
