Yokohama Roundtable on Climate Change
'Future Direction of the Climate Change Regime'


Organized by the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies
(UNU-IAS) in conjunction with the National Institute of Environmental
Studies (NIES)

This roundtable, the third in a series convened by UNU-IAS and NIES aims to address some of the salient features in international negotiations on climate change, prior to the forthcoming 10th Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina 6-17th December 2004. The roundtable discussions will draw lessons learnt from past implementation of climate change commitments and present options for the future.

The key note speech at the roundtable will be delivered by Professor Michael Grubb, Visiting Professor of Climate Change and Energy Policy at Imperial College, London. Other guest speakers will include Professor Hironori Hamanaka, former Vice Minister of the Environment and one of the chief negotiators for the Government of Japan. A wide range of participants from policy makers, members of the Japanese authorities, academic and diplomatic communities in Japan, NGOs and industry representatives will attend the roundtable.
