Global Environment Information Centre (GEIC):
GEIC was inaugurated in June 1996 as a joint initiative of UNU and the Japanese Ministry of the Environment. The various activities and projects undertaken by the centre reflect its partnership with a larger network of national and international organizations. Position description:
Programme Associate will assist in overall coordination of UNU/GEIC activities/projects including meeting/workshop organization, report production, dissemination of project outputs, networking with domestic/international environmental institutions, and assist in administrative tasks such as travel arrangement, requisitions, payment etc. related to projects.

Required qualifications:
Native or near-native level Japanese – reading, writing and speaking - is required. Good command of English and background or work experience in environmental field is highly desirable.

Remuneration:
This is a full-time position on a contractual basis. Total remuneration will be negotiable, depending on skills and experience of the selected candidate.

Duration of contract:
First contract for three months as probation, to be renewed by annual contract, upon completion of satisfactory work.

Starting date:
Immediately.
This is a locally recruited post and no-relocation expenses or allowances apply. The post is limited to a person residing in Japan, including non-Japanese holding a valid working visa.
The successful candidate will be employed under a local contract and will not hold international civil servant status nor be a "staff member" as defined in the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations.
