GEOC organizes and supports activities for timely, important international topics by a partnership approach.

*1. The Tenth Meeting of Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity took place in Nagoya, Japan from 18 to 29 October 2010.

The “RIO+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development” will take place in Brazil from 20 to 22 June 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg.

Partnerships in Japan

GEOC operates domestic projects in cooperation with 7 regional Environmental Partnership Offices (EPO) throughout Japan. The regional offices of the EPOs are shown on the map.

Domestic Activities

• Forming support system networks of EPO to cover the all of Japan
• Providing venues for roundtable discussions and multi-stakeholder dialogues to develop policy proposal capacity
• Support of feasibility studies on social business in the environmental field

Information Sharing and Communication

Information regarding environmental partnerships is distributed through various media with the objective of promoting environmental partnerships to encourage solutions to environmental problems on a regional and global scale.
